To The Max! - Nad Mika Interview

Näd Mika is a gender bending disco destroyer from Germany who's dirty edged electro is known to send dance floors all over Europe into a mad frenzy. Spilling fake blood, avant-garde dancers, spraying champagne, and lyrics of dirty disco boys and bitter whores are the order of the day in Näd's world. We wanted to get to know this grimey glitter warrior a little better and you will too after listening to her music.


Queer Trash--.Your sound is wonderfully dirty and edgy, you even say "Perversion and not perfection is very important for the understanding of Näd Mika".....can you tell us more about the Näd Mika experience? AND What can we expect to see when going to a Näd Mika show?

Näd Mika-Well for me the perfect pop world is really disgusting and make me throw up so I said to myself when I started my thing, that I will never be so pop and ready for consuming. I just want to be me and also have some fun on stage. My opinion is that every kind of art is ok and people need to get back to the way of thinking that diversity is the most important thing and not try to be like everyone else. So it is always a trash show and full of surprises. I also put a lot of energy into my shows. For me it is the most important thing to give something and make people have some fun and sometimes by extreme actions in any kind of way think about things. Sometimes it feels like a anarchy trash dance party for some moments for everyone.
When I started my project 3.5 years ago there were even 4 people with me on stage. Drag queens, moustache singing girls, a porn actor, naked gay guys, serious sexy guitar players.My project is always changing, I don’t do a band cause I am not a band type.The world changes, I change and so does my project.
So at the moment when I am touring I perform alone or sometimes with a guitar player, also I am working on some visuals.I change my clothes, I pump some energy into the people, sometimes I even change my gender, I mosh and sing and scream.Whatever I feel like. But if you ask people around Europe where I already performed most them would say:
“She is trash punk energy to the max”. That is the feedback I get very often from the audience.
Most of the bands don’t like to perform after me, cause what you can be sure of is that after the gig the stage is a mess.

QT. -If you had the chance to gain any super power what would it be? AND what would you do with it?

NM. -Hm I am not so much into superheroes but I guess I would like to have endless power, cause sometimes it would be nice to have the batteries recharget automatic.
On the other hand it would be cool to maybe be able to talk to animals. So I could explain to my little cat boy that it is not so cool to destroy my flat from time to time by throwing everything possible on the floor.



QT. -I heard you are working on a new album set to come out next year. What's the inspiration behind your new stuff?

NM. -The new album will be very experimental. I am working on different styles and am open to many influences. I also like the idea of working with many people from around the planet. Like my last album, my remix album “Kopfsprudelbad” where you can find remixes from people all over. Finland, Japan, Germany, France, ………………and so on.
So the new album will be ready in spring and the first single will be “to the max” that you can already find on my myspace profile. The idea behind this track was to do a song that is really 90s concerning the sound and the lyrics. Cause I am influenced by the 90s dance music a lot as well as on 80s trash and punk music.
So actually what you can expect is a mix of all my influences again and also very different special mixture of electronic music.



QT. -Where has been your favorite place you've played so far AND can we expect to see you in America anytime soon?

NM. -There are many places that I really really like and where it was fun and good and strong vibes and energy.
The most crazy gigs I had were in France, where some people were stagediving and at one point screamed so loud that I could not hear myself on stage anymore. Also Poland was really insane, people nearly destroyed the whole place during the gig when they were dancing and could not get enough when I started throwing and spitting beer on them. In the end it was more like a pool party and really every makeup and styling was destroyed at the end.There once was a really unbelievable gig in Cologne, Germany where girls threw bra’s at me and were out of controle.I like it when people are open and ready to just forget about everything and let go.
It is really one of my dreams to perform in the USA.So far it did not happen.So if someone reads this and needs me over there, just contact me!



QT. -Everyone has a guilty pleasure or something silly they listen to when all alone...what band/artist do you secretly love?

NM. -There are a lot of very trash stuff I listen to. Some 90s dance trash is really my fav. It gives me a certain kind of feeling. Like 2Unlimited or Leila K. Also I like the good old divas from the 80s like Samantha Fox and Grace Jones. Hm this is actually not a secret I guess. Also I listen to some wave stuff and really destructive 80s electro and NDW music. I like a lot of strange stuff.


QT. -Strangest place you've ever woke up at?

NM. -In a hotel room in Oslo with a Norwegian guy. The strange thing about it is the story behind it.
