What would happen if Divine were captured by disco aliens back in the day and were later beamed back down to modern times in Italy? The answer is closer than you think as made apparent by the HardTon Disco Queen!
Queer Trash- HardTon Disco Queen - where do you get your name from?
HardTon- Well, the name is only HardTon actually... I added Disco Queen because Hard Ton has been already taken by another profile. The name is built around my erections and the Ton I weight, as I'm about 150kg, so I submit my fat to disco. I guess that makes me a queen.
QT- Your video 'Loser' is fun and trashy and has that classic
italo disco sound we love so much....What inspired this song and the video?
HT- The inspiration for the video is the same that I had for the lyrics. Everybody in this world seems to only care about being cool, always a winner, and always smiling while wearing designer clothing. But there is something magical about losers. Losers because they don't have a regular job, or a traditional family, or because they don't have a "normal" sex life, or simply because they took a different path in life compared to the mainstream. I'm a man, I'm 150kg, and I sing in two heavy metal bands, but I also like pink sequins dresses, electronic music, and I like my make-up to be mixed up with my beard. Does this make a loser? If is so, well then being a loser is fun.
Musically I am inspired by diverse artists, from the disco masters like Giorgio Moroder, Patrick Cowley, Bobby O., to more contemporary artists like Chelonis R. Jones, Khan, Justus Koehncke, then the first Chicago House. But also heavy metal singers like Geoff Tate, Michael Kiske & James LaBrie
Anyway, when i create music I simply sit in front of my synths with a bottle of Black Bush, I push the buttons, I turn the knobs, I smoke a joint, I play the notes, and I see what happens.
QT- What turns the disco queen on?
HT- Lots of things, actually. Apple pies with cinnamon, the music of The Queensryche, vintage synths, italo disco, John Water's and Rainer Werner Fassbinder movies, lasagne, Gaetano Pesce's forniture, Prince (well, his music of course), Umberto Chiodi's paintings, Timothy Leary, Jean Genet, Pier Paolo Pasolini (everything he made), Coke, Dostojevski, Matthew Barney... and boys boys boys!
QT- If you HAD to switch places with someone for a day, who would it be and what would you do!?
HT- That's a hard question. Don't know, maybe the Pope so I'll start to tell people the truth. Or an alien, so I would bring all the smart people on to my planet, leaving all the assholes here on earth. Or simply my neighbour, so she'll stop complaining about the noise I always make with my music.
QT- What can we expect to see from you in 2009?
HT- HardTon is quite a recent project. I've started it with a friend of mine last September. We are both working on several new tracks, but it takes time, I'm a straight-nose bitch regarding my voice. So soon we'll have a lot more tracks posted on 'myspace', some remixes as well, and some new pics with new fabulous dresses. Hopefully there will also be a new video. So stay tuned, you skinny dancers! I am also looking forward to perform live on stage. I have already had some requests, but I've only got 2 tracks ready so far, and a 9 minutes live act sounds a little too conceptual baby!
QT- Favourite Queer Trash pin-up boy?
HT- Hey man, there are only two artists on the gallery! It's hard to decide... I love them both. Colourful camp pop art with a comics attitude. Actually I'd love them to make a portrait of me!
QT- If HardTon Disco Queen became ruler of the world, what would you do with all that power?
HT- I wouldn't fancy the idea of being the ruler of the world. But I would love people to be the ruler of themselves. This would be the greatest victory for the people.
QT- Where can people find out more about you?
HT- On myspace. com/hardtondiscoqueen of course! Be patient and expect more to come during 2009. And remember, trash will save us all from this world's misery.
XXX. The biggest disco queen of the XXI century
